1st garnfrwdd winter league competition

Today me Alan and Dai fished in the first competition of the year at Garnfrwdd trout fishery.
I drew a good first peg but was hampered by the wind but I managed to catch two fish from the first 1 brown and 2 rainbows. There was a good turn out today most where regulars but there were also a few new faces which is always a good thing, I caught one on the next peg and then did have a fish until the first peg after break. I manage to catch 6 on that peg two browns and four rainbows so that was a good peg for me then I move to peg 19 and in the first couple of cast hooked into another two browns. my first two fish where taken on a white u.v extreme lure and the rest where taken on a black zonker fished on a slow figure of eight retrieve.

THE RESULTS

1ST Chris Jones                16 fish 3 browns and 13 rainbows
2ND Matthew Pate (me)   11 fish 5 browns and 6 rainbows
3RD Lee Tatton                10 fish 3 browns and 7 rainbows
4TH Huw Weir                 7 fish 1 brown and 6 rainbows  (I think)
5TH Dai Jones                  6 fish 1 brown and 5 rainbows
6TH Dan Graham             4 fish 2 browns and 2 rainbows

The next competition is on the 17th of febuary just hope that the wind.

We have decided to give scores for fish caught
2 points for a rainbow
3 points for a brown

and 5 points for a fish over 6 pounds

We started the league on the 13th of January so that means I have

giving me 45 points overall so im off to a good start.
Dai has 21 points over all and Alan has 21

trout fry

Was up the fish farm last saturday and the fry are doing really well. They are up in the water now and a few are even feeding on the food dust. The hatching grids have been taken out of the hatching trays, next step is to transfer them to the holding trays but we are a long way from that yet

John Goatson and Dilwyn Davies taken out the dead fish

As you can see the yolk sack is nearly gone
on this fry

My Nymph and Buzzers

Been slowly filling up my box ready for some river fishing in the new year,And now that i have myself a permanent job I cant get a pair of waders and a new rod so look out fishy's. Here are a couple of photos that i took in the week there are a few gaps but they will be filled up before long.

also i have sorted out my buzzer box ready for the spring and although i tie all my own flies i really struggle to tie buzzers and get them to look as i want, so i basically give up and I started to look for some quality buzzers for sale on ebay and other site and time again I always ended going back to the same guy. He is an ebay seller and he ties some awsome buzzers and goes buy the name of MAK-FLIES if like me you struggle to tie buzzers or do not tie your own flies and want some quality product this is the guy that you need to check out. He is one of the good guys on  ebay and doesnt skimp when it comes to hooks and materials and quality
so check him out his ebay seller id is MAK-FLIES786

here are a few shots of the buzzers not all of them are maks but 90% of them are

Trout fry

Been up the fish farm this morning for a hour or two and i am yet again impressed with how well the fry are coming on.The top picture i took this morning and the bootom one is from last week as you can clearly see the orange sack has shrunk a little bit and the tail has started to develop. There are already a few fry that have started to swim to the top of the hatching trays which is a tell tale sign that in a week or to they will start to feed on trout food dust and them the hatching grid cab be taken out. the orange part is called a yolk sack and the fry uses this as a food sorce until the are develped enough to feed. So as you can see it wont be long until they are on the feed, also in the grounds of  the farm there are two settling tank which the stock pools run into and the fish waste settles then the clean water runs back into the river rhondda there where a mass of midges hatching over them i did take a photo but my phone camera would not pick them up. it has been quite mild over the last couple of weeks and there have been alot of these hatching from the shit pools as we call them up the farm.

Garnfrwdd pairs competition

Last Saturday was the garnfrwdd pairs competition and garnfrwdd had a good turn out the lake was full and there wasn't a spare peg on the lake. So wot we all did was pick our peg and then Jamie miller picked the pairs and I was paired with andy griffin (king of the egg) we did ok we both caught 5 fish each I had 2 on the egg 2 on the satanic buzzer and 1 on a blues tungsten lures and andy had his fish on the rhubarbs + custard egg I think . Dai was paired with another garnfrwdd regular chris jones, Dai caught four on an eggs and lures not sure what ones though and Chris caught 1 and I'm not sure on what. Alan Martin was paired with a garnfrwdd regular Eddie who caught a monster brown 10-12lb on a cats whisker followed by another two browns and and two rainbows and Alan caught five himself and came third over all. The pair that finished second where Peter thurnall and Stuart Davies and first place went to Daniel grafham and the other Chris jones and they done well in the competition and caught 21 between them so well done to them. Me and the lads can't wait for the winter league to start and the first competition is on the 27th of January which is not that far away just hope that the weather holds out and stays mild
(Which Is highly unlikely in Wales)
Hopefully this season me Dai and Alan are gona have a competition of our own. Through the coming year and each time that the three of us go fishing we are gona keep track on what we catch and award points for fish caught and chuck a couple of quid in each time and at the end of the year have a third second and first which I think is a fair way of doing it and will be a bit of fun.

Trout fry

I went to the fish farm yesterday and was over the moon with the newly hatched fish we have had a brilliant hatch this year and everything is going good and fingers crossed that everything will work out and that most of them will survive although there will be some that don't make it but that is usual. I spent about 20 minute yesterday taking out dead fry and none hatched eggs and compared to last year I didn't have much out. The fry are already starting to swim up to the top of the water and once they're sack is gone from the under belly they will start to feed. I took a couple of good picture yesterday I borrowed dais camera so ill put them on for you to see. The only thing that needs to happen now is this seasons fish need to be bulked up as soon as possible and ready to stock as march the 3rd is coming rather quick. Tonight is the first meeting of the year so I'm gona go down to see wot is gona happen in the new year and weather there are any chages to the rules or if they have decided to embrace a catch and release rule for some members who do not want to take fish from the llyn. I have spoke to a few members about this and some agree and the few that don't are really dead against it and think that it will spoil the fishing, but some people are afraid of change and stuck in the good old days but that is just my oppinion.
These are the photos that I took at the farm yesterday.
